Fundamentals of Sensory Perception: A Brief Review

Dr. Avi Chaudhuri is the author of Fundamentals of Sensory Perception, a textbook released in 2011 that is geared toward undergraduate students who are taking courses in psychology, neuroscience, and sensory biology. Dr. Avi Chaudhuri holds a PhD in visual neuroscience from the University of California-Berkeley.

Fundamentals of Sensory Perception discusses in detail the ways that physical stimuli produce signals in the nervous system. The principles underlying perceptual measurement is the first chapter in Fundamentals of Sensory Perceptions. The book then proceeds to discuss core concepts of sensory transduction and nervous system function. Each of the sensory systems is then discussed in detail, with near equal emphasis on biological and perceptual phenomena.

Chaudhuri is at work on the second edition of the book, which will contain a new chapter on the cognitive influences on perception, such as attention, memory, motivation, emotion, and culture.
